What's New With BHS TV

By: Mike Duval

After a five-year absence, BCAT once again has an after school club for high schoolers. We’re all very excited for the road that lies ahead, and we’re proud of our core group of student volunteers whose dedication has never wavered. What started as a small crew has since grown into a thriving club, whose members are engaged and enjoy working on our projects. In addition, many of our students also volunteer their time and efforts on BCAT’s other studio and field productions. This is a great group of students who all want to learn about what we do, and we couldn’t ask for anything more than that.

Currently, BHS TV, as the club is now called, is working on several projects. Our core project is BHS NEWS, a supplement to BCAT’s news program BNEWS Weekly. Our goal with BHS NEWS is to produce one news story a month that relates to the happenings of BHS. Our first story was about the BHS Robotics team as they prepare for their competition season, and for our next story, we’re looking to speak to the BHS Girls Indoor Track team, who just won their first Middlesex League Championship.

Over the course of the next month or so, we will also be assisting with the production of Factathlon, a tournament-style trivia show for BHS students run by two teachers. We’re very excited to have the opportunity to work on a studio production and learn all that goes into making one possible.

Finally, over the next few months, we’ll be working with the non-profit organization Movies Making Kids, run by Burlington native Corey Shuff. The aim of Movies Making Kids is to produce short films that will be shown in a film festival early in the summer. This is an exciting chance for us to delve into the world of moviemaking, and we’re all eager to get started.

With all this excitement coming up, BHS TV is of course always looking for new members. If you or someone you know is interested in joining BHS TV, please email me at duval@bcattv.org, or feel free to drop by one of our meetings, Thursday 2:30-4:30. We hope to see you there for all the fun events coming up!
