Burlington Farmers' Market Moving to New Location

By: Rich Hosford

Lovers of the Burlington Farmers’ Market will find it in a new location this year.

Burlington Recreation Department Program Coordinator Kelly Lehman was at the Board of Selectmen meeting Monday night to get approval for use of the Town Common. She said the plan for the Farmers’ Market this year is to move it to the common from the Human Services Building, where it was during its first year in 2015.

Lehman said reasons for the move include easier access to people in wheelchairs and potential renovations at the Human Services Building this summer. The market is also introducing vendors who will have prepared food and they will need electricity, available on the common, to keep it warm or cool and safe for consumption.

The new location will likely increase customers at the Farmers’ Market, Lehman said, because it will be more visible to passing traffic. The organizers will have to work out parking if the crowd gets really big.

Members of the board asked about additional wear and tear of the Town Common grass that will result from it hosting the market. Lehman said vendors will drive on the paved walkway to drop off materials and then park at the Human Services Building to reduce traffic on the grass.

The Farmers’ Market will be open on Thursdays from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. starting in mid-June and running through mid-October.
