Burlington Town Election: Only Three Town Seats and One Town Meeting Precinct Contested

By: Rich Hosford

The deadline for potential candidates to turn in their nomination papers has passed and the ballot for the 2015 Burlington Town Election is set.

There are three contested town-wide seats and one contested Town Meeting precinct. All the other potential races will be uncontested due to a lack of candidates.

One contested race is Town Meeting Moderator. Current Town Meeting member Sally Willard and former Town Moderator Phil Gallagher are both on the ballot. There is also a race for a 4-year seat on the Planning Board, made vacant by the resignation of member Paul Roth. Town Meeting member Carol Pema and Jeffrey Pearsons have both turned in their nomination papers. Finally, there are two seats on the Board of Health up for election and three candidates, including incumbent Elizabeth Walendziewicz and candidates David McSeeney and Jaclynn Sulfaro.

There are also seven people running for six seats in Precinct 7 of Town Meeting.

Uncontested races include two seats on the Board of Selectmen, one seat on the Recreation Commission, two seats on the Board of Assessors, one seat on the School Committee, two seats on Library Trustees, two five-year seats on the Planning Board, one three-year seat on the Planning Board  and one seat on the Shashween Technical School Committee. There are also no other contested Town Meeting seats except for Precinct 7.
