Cambridge Street Paving Complete

By: BNEWS Weekly

MassDOT’s paving of Cambridge Street form Bedford Street to Mall Road is complete.  The paving project popped up with very little notice about three weeks ago and the DPW tried in vain to delay the paving to accommodate proper crosswalks, the high school entrance and drainage at the Mercedes-Benz site.  As Route 3A is a state owned road, MassDOT proceeded with little consideration for the town request.

One of the options the town thought it did have with the paving was whether or not to stripe Cambridge Street as four lanes or two.  Town Administrator John Petrin confirmed that the decision was exclusively in the hands of the state and Route 3A has been stripped the same as it has always been, with a double yellow down the middle.  Keeping the road striping identical to the way it was leaves room for two lanes on each side, effectively making Cambridge Street the same vaguely-separated four-lane road.
