Freezing Rain Advisory Issued for Tonight

By: Rich Hosford

Now that the winter weather has arrived it looks like it wants to stick around for a bit.

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory that will be in effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday night until 3 a.m. Thursday morning. The advisory is for much of Massachusetts including Middlesex County.

If freezing rain does fall, the NWS says, it could create hazardous travel conditions. Untreated roads and walkways will be slippery. Bridges, including overpasses, could also become dangerously slick.

Frozen surfaces could still be slippery Thursday morning so it would be advisable to be cautious on outdoor stairs and walkways. Fortunately, the NWS is predicting a high of 44 for New Year’s Eve.
