Marshall Simonds Middle School Students Photograph Public Safety

By: Rich Hosford

Students in the Marshall Simonds Middle School Photo Club recently paid a visit to the Burlington Police and Fire departments for a photography tour.

The students were there to take "environmental portraits," or "photographys executed in the subject's living, working or playing environment that highlights his or her life and surroundings," a blog post from MSMS's Susan Rogers, head of Burlington's Extended Academic Model (BEAM) classroom.

"Students were divided into two groups, each of which visited one of the venues," the blog post states. "Photographers at the BPD were treated to an informative tour, given by Lt. Mills. Firehouse visitors were welcomed by Captain Scott.

Students used HDR and grunge filters in their work.
