Medical Sharps Disposal at Fire Department

The Burlington Board of Health in cooperation with the Burlington Fire Department are joining up with Lahey Hospital to help residents properly dispose of medical sharps.  Medical sharps consist of syringes, hypodermic needles and lancets.   As of July 1st of last year it is illegal to discard sharps in household trash however a convenient and safe way to discard those used sharps at the Burlington Fire Department. 

 

All used sharps need to be in a puncture proof quart size containers and placed into the one-way opening in a kiosk in the lobby of the Fire Department.  The kiosk for sharps does not include those generated by a visiting nurse or other medical professional that visits your home.  For more on the sharps disposal kiosk at the Fire Department and the safe discard of syringes, hypodermic needles or lancets, you can call the Burlington Board of Health at 781-270-1955.
