Plane Crashes Near Burlington Mall

By: BNEWS Weekly

On Wednesday around 2 p.m., a single-engine plane crashed just off Middlesex Turnpike, about a half mile north of the Burlington Mall. The plane was bound for Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford when the pilot reported having engine trouble. An emergency parachute was deployed and the plane came to rest in a wooded swampland.

Burlington Police Chief Michael Kent and briefly addressed the media in the aftermath of the crash, saying that the two passengers on board suffered no major injuries. They are said to have walked away from the crash, but were taken to Lahey Hospital as a pre-caution.

DPW Superintendent John Sanchez also made a statement, saying that the town’s water supply would not be affected, despite the fact that the crash occurred not far from the Vinebrook Water Treatment Facility.

The crash is now under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and Mass Aeronautical, with the assistance of Burlington Police and Fire.
