Planning Board Votes to Support RMD Bylaw

By: BNEWS Weekly

The Planning Board voted to support a bylaw regarding the zoning of a Registered Marijuana Dispensary, or RMD.  The Planning staff has been working on the marijuana bylaw for several months and will present the zoning to Town Meeting in May.

Upon the passing of the state law regarding medical marijuana Burlington filed a moratorium with the Attorney General’s office to stave off marijuana dispensaries in Burlington and give town officials time to understand the RMD process.  That moratorium expires June 30th and the town needs to have a bylaw in place by then dictating where RMDs can be set up, otherwise RMD applicants will be allowed to open shop anywhere except residential areas.

Senior Planner Don Benjamin has been spearheading the RMD bylaw effort and is working with Planning Director Kristen Kassner on refining the language before April 18th when it will be printed as an article for May Town Meeting.
