Au Bon Pain in Burlington Mall Set to Close Tuesday

By: Rich Hosford

The Au Bon Pain fast casual restaurant in the Burlington Mall is closing.

A sign placed outside of the restaurant in the mall corridor said the location is scheduled to close on Tuesday, May 28.

The sign provides a website for more information and when visited gives a generic, non-site specific message to customers.

“Au Bon Pain has made the difficult decision to close certain cafes due to site-specific factors,” it reads. “We will continue operating our other cafés. On behalf of all of us at Au Bon Pain, and especially the team at your café, it has been a privilege to serve you, to get to know you and to become part of your day. We hope that in some way, large or small, we’ve enhanced your routine, and we sincerely thank you for being our guest.”

The site also has some information to customers, including that anyone who is signed up to their newsletter will automatically be transferred to the nearest open location and that any gift cards customers have can be used at other Au Bon Pain locations.

The nearest location to Burlington is now in Davis Square in Somerville.

BNEWS reached out to Au Bon Pain to ask why the location was closing and what, if any, severance packages were being made for employees or if any employees were being offered jobs at other locations. As of publication there has been no response but we will update this story if they reply.
