Beer Works Looking to Come to Burlington

By: Rich Hosford

A popular Boston area brewery is looking to open a location in Burlington.

The Slesar Bros. Brewing Company was at the Burlington Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday to request the transfer of the all-alcohol license previously owned by Outback Steakhouse for a new establishment called Burlington Beer Works.

The board approved the transfer with a vote of 4-0. Selectmen Chris Hartling was not in attendance.

The company currently has six Beer Works locations, including in Boston and Salem. The Burlington location would be in the old Outback spot in the Crossroads plaza.

Joe Slesar, company president, detailed the history of the business. He said he opened the first location in 1992. All the subsequent locations are in Massachusetts.

Beer Works is a full service dining restaurant with small micro-breweries at each location. Each location serves craft beers made in-house as well as wine and cocktails.

The board also voted to accept Slesar as the acting manager with the plan to have a new manager come on board when the restaurant is closer to opening.

Slesar will be back before the board at a later date for a floor-plan approval. The company will also start the process of gaining necessary Planning Board approval.

Slesar said he hopes to open the restaurant and brewery in the middle of 2016.
