BHS Once Again Named an 'Apple Distinguished School'

Burlington High School has once again been recognized by Apple for its use of technology in education.

“I am pleased to announce that, for the third time, Burlington High School has been named an Apple Distinguished School,” Principal Mark Sullivan wrote in his blog. “BHS continues to be recognized as an exemplary learning environment for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. This renewal for Burlington High School is once again a two-year designation.”

Sullivan said that over the last several years the high school, and the Burlington Public Schools IT Department and Central Office, have worked to provide teachers and students  digital tools that can be used to engage, instruct, and excite. In addition, Burlington has committed and followed through with, providing teachers the necessary training and consistent support required to successfully implement technology.

The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that have demonstrated Apple's highest vision of a successful 21st century learning environment, Sullivan explained. The selection of BHS as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its successes in enhancing and extending teaching and learning with thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology.

Schools chosen by Apple for designation as an Apple Distinguished School have demonstrated Apple's highest vision of a successful 21st century learning environment, have a strong relationship with Apple, and possess a willingness to do outreach activities. The five best practices of an Apple Distinguished School are:

  1. 1. Visionary leadership

  2. 2. Innovative learning and teaching

  3. 3. Ongoing professional development

  4. 4. Compelling evidence of success

  5. 5. flexible learning environments

“Of course none of this could be accomplished without our excellent teaching staff, the quality and character of our students, and the commitment that the Town of Burlington has to its young people - so thank you to our staff, students, and community for their continued hard work and support,” Sullivan said.
