Bicycle Fundraiser Gives Kids Chance to Help Fight Cancer

By: Rich Hosford

An upcoming fundraiser will give area children an opportunity to get out and ride their bikes, trikes or scooters while learning about the value of helping those in need.

The first Burlington PMC kids ride will be held to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund.

“100 percent of rider raised funds are donated to Dana Farber for cancer research and treatment,” PMC Kids says on their website. “This PMC kids ride is a way for kids to help kids!”

The ride will be held on Sunday, September 29 in The District off of Mall Road. Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. and there will be a short opening ceremony at 9 a.m. Kids can ride from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. and there will be an after party from 10 a.m. to noon.

PMC Kids is offering different routes for different age groups (2-15) and riding experience. The Little Tikes Route is a small ride around cones for riders with trikes, training wheels and scooters. The No One Fights Alone Route is a 1-mile loop through The District. The Conquer Cancer Route is the 1-mile loop through the property done three times.

“So many families in town have been affected by cancer,” the site reads. “The PMC Kids ride is a way that kids can honor family members and friends who have battled or are currently battling this awful disease. It is a way for our great town to come together and collectively help in the fight against cancer.”

To participate, parents will need to create an account or log in with an existing account in order to register their child or family. Parents will also need to sign a waiver and commit to the $30 fundraising minimum per rider.

Once registration is complete, parents will receive an email with information on how to log into their management page to customize donation pages and to track donations.

The fundraising minimum for each rider is $30 and is due by October 15, 2019.

Riders who go above and beyond with their fundraising will be recognized Heavy Hitters or Breakaway Fundraisers and will receive a special gift in recognition of their fundraising efforts.

- Heavy Hitter at $300+ - riders will receive a sack pack.

- Breakaway Fundraiser– $800+ - riders will receive a backpack.

PMC Kids also has some fundraising tips:
