DPW Responds to Water Main Break on Middlesex Turnpike

The Burlington Department of Public Works had a long night fixing a water main break on Middlesex Turnpike on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

DPW Director John Sanchez said the break, which was a water gate, was reported at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening and the department wasn’t able to get the water off into the middle of the night.

"We worked to isolate it so we could dig it up, but the water was still on while try to isolated it, so it was the middle of night before we were able to shut the water off,” he said.

According to the DPW the areas affected by the break are a small section of Bedford Street, College Road and Liberty Street.

During the repair many area residents were without power and traffic was backed up.

The repair was completed at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Sanchez commended the members of his department who worked throughout the night to repair the break.
