Get Ready for Fall With Summer Yard Waste Collection

By: Rich Hosford

Have you been diligently keeping your yard up this summer and now have a bunch of grass clippings, cut branches and other such debris you want to get rid of?

You chance is coming later this month. Burlington’s summer yard waste pickup will be held Monday, August 24 through Friday, August 28.

If you do not compost or otherwise store your yard waste you must dispose of it during an official yard waste collection. Yard waste, including grass clippings, is banned from regular trash by state regulations.

It’s also important to note that while regular trash pick-up is on Thursdays in town, yard waste collection follows its own schedule.

“Yard waste collection follows a Monday through Friday pickup, with different neighborhoods scheduled on different days of the week,” a notice from the Department of Public Works states. “This allows us to employ less yard waste trucks in town and also allows for those who missed the previous day to be picked up because we have a truck in town every day.”
