Gov. Baker Approves Tax Free Holiday Weekend

By: Rich Hosford

If you’ve been eyeing a big purchase next weekend might be the time to go out and buy it.

Gov. Charlie Baker has signed a bill making Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 a Massachusetts tax free holiday, meaning that most consumer goods will not carry the state’s 6.25 sales tax.

This is the 11th time Massachusetts has had a sales tax holiday in the past 12 years.

Baker said the holiday is not only a chance for people to save a few dollars but is also an opportunity for people to support local businesses.

You can’t buy everything tax-free, however. The sales tax will remain for tobacco products and big-ticket items including cars, motorboats or anything over $2,500.
