Indian Americans for Burlington Holding 'Festival of Lights - Diwali' Celebration on Town Common


Join fellow Burlington residents to celebrate an important Indian holiday.

On October 15th there will be a Diwali celebration event hosted by the Indian American for Burlington organization on the Town Common from 3 to 6 p.m.

“Indian Americans for Burlington (IAB) is very grateful and excited to celebrate ‘The Festival of Lights – Diwali” for the very first time in Burlington Town common,” an invitation to the event reads. “Diwali is the most popular festival among all Indians, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.”

The festivity will include dance programs, Yoga for all, competition, games, a Henna booth and a street play depicting the story of Lord Rama.

The Gazebo will be decorated to represent how everyone decorates their homes with lights, Rangolis and colorful ornament. There will be vendors and food stalls for shopping Indian clothes and to give participants a chance to enjoy a taste of Indian food.

“IAB humbly invites you and your family to celebrate the festival and make it special,” the invitation says.

Here is a schedule of events:

3 to 5  p.m.:

- Performances by Kids and youth.

- Laughter Yoga & Fashion Walk: “The joy of Diwali”

- Competitions and games for all “Khel Khel Mein”

-Special feature item : ‘The story of Deepawali - Ram Leela style Street Play .
Directed by the Talented duo Tanu and Madhupurna .

5 to 7 p.m.:

-Welcoming the Burlington Town Selectman

- Ujjvalayati - let the light shine!

- Don’t miss the Garba (dance) after Ujjvalayati.... open for all.

- Sweets and Delicious food from Chettinad Grill

- Enjoy the Diwali Home ambiance in the Gazebo with rangolis (art patterns) and Diyas.
