People Helping People to Hold Food Drive at Town Election

Help a family in need while you perform your civic duty.

During the Burlington Town Election on Saturday, April 6, People Helping People will be holding a food drive.

“This is a time of year where donations are not as frequent as during the holidays,” a release about the drive explains. “Remember to vote and bring a food donation with you to support the People Helping People Food Pantry.

Items needed include cereal, oatmeal, pasta sauce, vegetable oil, canned fruit, canned tomatoes, Basmati rice, canned spinach, beets, or potatoes, 2 pound bags of sugar, baby wipes, diapers size 5 and 6, boxes of tissues, and toilet paper (individually wrapped).

People Helping People is the umbrella organization for the Burlington Food Pantry, the Holiday Program & Wish Tree and the Covenant for Basic Needs. These three non-profit and volunteer-supported organizations are striving to meet the basic necessities of Burlington residents who have fallen on hard times.

In 2018 the Food Pantry distributed over 207,000 pounds of food to families in Burlington. This was in increase over previous years. PHP also gave the seniors at the food pantry a small gift for the holiday season. In November over 180 families in town were provided the fixings for Thanksgiving dinners.
