Planning Board Approves Permits for 120-Unit Apartment Complex

By: Rich Hosford

The Planning Board approved special permits that will allow a developer continue with a plan to build 300 apartments in two complexes in town.

Nordblom Company, the owner of Northwest Park, got the go-ahead to build 120 one-and-two bedroom apartments on Second Avenue. This project, called by the company Phase II, is in addition to 180 apartments currently being built on the site.

The proposal for the additional 120 apartments was expected as the original Planned Development District for Northwest Park that was passed by Town Meeting allowed for 300 apartments. The special permits were approved unanimously by the board.

Nordblom Senior Vice President Todd Freemont-Smith said the 180 units currently under construction should be finished and available next spring. Work on the 120 apartment complex will begin this winter and be ready sometime next year.

10 percent of the apartments will be affordable housing to help the town maintain its 40B requirements. The average size of the apartments is 1,100 square feet.

The apartments are adjacent to the 3rd Ave. development project, which is also part of Northwest Park. Those walking in the area can see the construction behind Kings Burlington.
