Retail Store to Have All Night Hours for Holiday Season

By: Rich Hosford

At least one Burlington retail store will be open overnight during some holiday shopping days this year.

Kohl’s was granted conditional approval for a special extended hours license during Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

Lisa Smith, store manager for the Burlington Kohl’s, was at the Oct. 6 Board of Selectmen meeting to request a temporary special license to have the store have extended hours, including 24-hours, during certain days in November and December. The board continued the request until the October 27 meeting.

Smith said Kohl’s would like to extend hours on the following days: 1 a.m. to midnight on Nov. 28 (Black Friday), 24-hours on Dec. 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23. 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 26.

The board approved the license 3-1 with Selectmen Christopher Hartling voting against the measure. Chairman Bob Hogan was not in attendance.

The board did, however, put conditions on the special license. It said that if enough stores apply to stay open late or overnight, the town can assign a detail officer if officials deem it necessary. If a detail officer is needed the stores will be required to cover the cost.
