Shawsheen Tech School Committee Enters Contract Negotiations With Superintendent Candidate

By: Rich Hosford

Shawsheen Technical High School’s school committee took a big step to replace Superintendent Charlie Lyons who is retiring after almost 30 years in the position.

The committee chose, with a 10-0 vote, to enter contract negotiations with the school’s current Director of Technical Programs Timothy Broadrick, the Wilmington Apple reported

During the meeting the school committee members interviewed Broadrick and two other candidates, Social Studies teacher Jessica Cook and Assistant Superintendent-Director Carissa Karakaedos. Committee members praised all three candidates, saying they were lucky to have such high-quality applicants, but eventually settled on Broadrick, calling him the “most rounded” candidate.

Broadrick has worked for the school for the past 10 years and has a bachelor of arts from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Education in Organization Leadership from Endicott College. He has a Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators’ Association Leadership License and a leadership certificate from the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators.

Moving forward the committee’s personnel subcommittee will work with Broadrick to negotiate a contract. If that process concludes in a timely matter the committee could make the official appointment and approve the contract during its August 25 meeting.
