Volunteers Needed for Seniors and Students Community Group

By: BNEWS

The following is a release from Bridges Together Burlington and the Burlington Senior Center:

Burlington Public Schools are participating in an award-winning intergenerational program that unites fourth grade students and adults ages 55 and older. The program, Bridges: Growing Older, Growing Together, is designed to promote family ties, mutual respect, understanding and friendship between generations.

Bridges will run in six week sessions throughout the school year in each of the Burlington elementary schools. The first sessions will take place at the Francis Wyman School from October 15th to November 19th.

There is an urgent need for volunteers ages 55 and up for the Francis Wyman program. Volunteers commit to a one hour session, from 1 to 2 p.m., for six consecutive Thursdays.

Classroom teachers do all preparation and instruction; volunteers support instruction. Working in pairs they engage a group of four to six students in thoughtful conversation. There is a one hour orientation to prepare volunteers prior to their first session.

For additional information or to register as a volunteer, contact Kathy Lawless at bridgesvolunteercoordinator@gmail.com or leave a message at the Senior Center 781-270-1950.
